FRITZ!Box 3390 Service

The wireless guest access cannot be used to access the Internet

Although wireless devices can register with the FRITZ!Box's wireless guest access, they cannot use it to access the Internet. In some cases, new wireless devices do not obtain IP addresses from the FRITZ!Box.

Important:Some of the settings described here are only displayed if the advanced view is enabled in the user interface. The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the issue persists.

1 Reducing the validity period of IP addresses

Setting the validity period

180 IP addresses are available for wireless guest access; they cannot be reassigned until the validity period (lease time) of 10 days has expired. If the wireless guest access is used by many different wireless devices on a regular basis, for example when the FRITZ!Box is being used as a hotspot in a hotel or café, the FRITZ!Box cannot assign IP addresses to other wireless devices because all of the IP addresses have already been assigned. Therefore, configure the FRITZ!Box so that IP addresses are only valid for one day:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Home Network Overview" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "Network Settings" tab.
  4. Click the "IPv4 Addresses" button.
  5. Enter 1 in the "Valid for" field.
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Deleting a network device from the user interface

The new validity period is only valid for network devices that register with the FRITZ!Box after the change was made. Therefore, delete all unused network devices:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Home Network Overview" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "Network Connections" tab.
  4. Click the (Delete) button next to the respective device in the list of network devices,
    • or, if you did not change the settings for this device in the FRITZ!Box and you want to delete all of the devices that are no longer connected to the FRITZ!Box:
      • Click the "Remove" button under the list of network devices.

2 Opening an HTTP page in the web browser

If the option "Allow registration with guest access only after accepting the terms of use" is enabled for wireless guest access, a captive portal with the terms of use is displayed for approval by the "guest"; otherwise no access to the Internet is granted. However, the captive portal is not displayed if a HTTPS page is called up first:

Now the captive portal is displayed. After consenting to the conditions, it is possible to access HTTPS pages over the Internet.
