FRITZ!Box 6490 Service - Knowledge Base
Can the hotspot services offered by a cable provider be used with the FRITZ!Box?
Some cable providers offer so-called hotspot services that make their customers' private wireless routers available to all other customers for Internet access.
Vodafone's hotspot service (homespot) can be used with the FRITZ!Box 6490 Cable if the provider makes it available. Vodafone does not activate this service for devices purchased in stores. The homespot can be enabled or disabled in Vodafone's customer portal. Your cable provider then automatically sets it up it in the FRITZ!Box or disables it again. You do not need to change any settings in the FRITZ!Box itself.
Other hotspot services can only be used with special wireless routers provided by the respective cable provider. Currently, you cannot use other hotspot services with the FRITZ!Box.
Note:The FRITZ!Box 6490 Cable supports the specification "HotSpot 2.0/Passpoint". This function allows all cable providers to also use the FRITZ!Box to offer their hotspot services. Whether a cable provider allows its hotspot services to be used with the FRITZ!Box and to what extent depends on the provider.
