FRITZ!Box 6840 LTE Service

Setting up a USB scanner connected to the FRITZ!Box

With the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software, you can use a USB scanner connected to the FRITZ!Box as if it were connected directly to the computer's USB port.

Important:If you are using a USB all-in-one printer with scanning capabilities instead of a USB scanner, configure it as described in this guide.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • Windows 10 / 8 / 7 (64-bit or 32-bit) is installed on the computer.

Important:Some of the settings described here are only displayed if the advanced view is enabled in the user interface. The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS

1 Connecting a USB scanner to the FRITZ!Box

2 Installing the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software

Install the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software on the computer with which you want to use the USB device connected to the FRITZ!Box:

  1. Log on to the computer as the Windows user who would like to use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection.

    Important:If the user does not have administrative rights, you must enter a valid administrator password when installing or starting the software for the first time.

  2. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  3. Click "USB Devices" in the "Home Network" menu.
  4. Click on the "USB Remote Connection" tab.
  5. Enable the option "USB remote connection enabled".
  6. Click on the "USB remote connection software" link.
    • The window "USB remote connection" opens.
  7. If the window "USB remote connection" has a "Download" button:
    1. Click "Download" in the window "USB remote connection" and download the file "fritzbox-usb-fernanschluss.application".
    2. Double-click on the downloaded file.
  8. Click "Install" and follow the instructions on your screen.
  9. Repeat steps 1 - 8 for all other Windows users who would like to use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection on this computer.

3 Enable the USB remote connection

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "USB Devices" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "USB remote connection" tab.
  4. Enable the USB remote connection and the option "others (e.g., scanners)".
  5. Click "Apply" to save your settings.

4 Connecting a USB scanner to a computer using the USB remote connection

  1. Double-click the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection icon in the notification area of the Windows task bar (Systray).
  2. If you set a password for the FRITZ!Box user interface:
      • Enter the password and leave the field "User name" empty,
    • or, if you have protected the FRITZ!Box with a user name and password:
      • Enter the name and password of a user who is authorized to access the FRITZ!Box user interface.

        Note:You can edit the access rights of FRITZ!Box users under "System > FRITZ!Box Users" in the user interface.

  3. Click "Refresh".
  4. Right-click the USB device you would like to connect with the computer.
  5. Click "Connect".

Now the computer detects the USB scanner as a USB device and you can install the driver and software from the scanner manufacturer.

Note:Before a different computer can access the USB scanner, you must clear the connection between the first computer and the USB scanner in the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software.
