Updating FRITZ!OS of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater

FRITZ!OS is the software stored in the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater that controls all of its functions. We make new FRITZ!OS versions available on a regular basis that enhance and add new functions to your repeater.

With the "Online Update" function you can install the latest FRITZ!OS quickly and easily.
If you cannot use the "online update" function, for example when the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater is not connected to the Internet, update the firmware manually.

1 Updating with "online update"

  1. Click "System" in the user interface of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater.
  2. Click "Update" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "FRITZ!OS Version" tab and then click the "Find New FRITZ!OS" button.
  4. If a new version is found, then the "Start Update" button is displayed. Click the button to start the update.

The "Power" LED flashes while the update is being transmitted to the repeater.

2 Updating the firmware manually

Downloading the FRITZ!OS file

  1. Call up ftp://ftp.avm.de/fritz.box/ in your web browser and switch to the folder for your FRITZ!WLAN Repeater model.
  2. Switch to the subfolder "firmware" and then to the folder named "english".
  3. Download the latest FRITZ!OS file with the extension ".image".

Installing the latest FRITZ!OS

  1. Click "System" in the user interface of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater.
  2. Click "Update" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "FRITZ!OS File" tab.
  4. Click the "Save Settings" button and save them as an export file on your computer.

    Note:Save your FRITZ!WLAN Repeater settings again under "System > Backup" right after successfully completing the installation. Then you can always restore it to a working configuration.

  5. Click the "Browse..." button.
  6. Select the update file that you downloaded (image file) and click the "Open" button.
  7. Click the "Start Update" button.

The "Power" LED flashes while the update is being transmitted to the repeater.
