FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E Service - Knowledge Base
Network application does not detect network devices connected to FRITZ!WLAN Repeater
A network application (for example Internet access control, file server) in the home network of the wireless router (for example a FRITZ!Box) does not detect network devices such as computers, smartphones, tablets, or game consoles connected to the wireless router by means of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater. Network devices behind the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater cannot use any of the network application's functions.
- When these network devices are connected directly to the wireless router, the network application detects them and they can be used without restriction.
1 Network devices use the MAC address of FRITZ!WLAN Repeater
By design, network devices connected to the wireless router by means of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater do not use their own MAC address to communicate with other network devices. Instead, they use the MAC address of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater. For this reason, network applications cannot use MAC addresses to identify network devices registered with the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater.
- Connect the network device directly to the wireless router.
- Use a network application (for example for Internet access control) that does not use MAC addresses to identify network devices.
Note:If you are using a computer with a Windows operating system, you can use an application that regulates Internet access based on Windows user accounts (such as FRITZ!Box Child Protection).
